music director

With her love for performance, composition, and education, Clara has loved incorporating different elements of the three in a music director role.

Her first formal work as a music director was when she was 15 years old, when she wanted to pursue putting on a musical theatre production as part of an Independent Directed Study (IDS) through her high school. The project culminated in a production of Willy Wonka Jr., with a cast of 30+ students from the middle and primary schools (aged 5-12), where Clara acted as director, music director, producer, and choreographer.

Since then, she has been a music director for several theatre and choral productions, including:

  • Music Director for The 13th Story, a production company formed through her fourth year university cohort. This consisted of music directing “r(evolve)” (a performative exhibition piece in collaboration with the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, which she also acted as composer and sound designer) as well as the original musical “WHODUNNIT!” (which she also acted as composer, sound designer, and co-lyricist).

  • Music Director for Surrey Holiday Lights 2021, consisting of both the mainstage musical performance and the choral set (the latter of which she also acted as arranger for)

  • Leading choral workshops, most recently for Selkirk Secondary School (which integrated Clara’s original music/arrangements)
